Tonal Strength Academy

The leading minds in sports and exercise science.

“Cutting-edge human movement science with the world as our laboratory - the TSI Research Program aims to investigate biomechanics, physiology and behavioral science while leveraging the world's largest strength training data set. […]

We have multiple ways of capturing how people move while using and interacting with Tonal. With 12 marker-based motion capture cameras, we are able to precisely record the location of every human body segment as well as Tonal accessories.

Our optical solution is supplemented with 8 marker-less cameras that record a user’s movement in 3D video. A suite of inertial measurement units (IMUs) record accelerations and rotations over a thousand times each second, while force plates and load cells determine how much force a user is generating throughout their body: from pushing off the floor to pulling on the Tonal cable.

With electromyography equipment, we map how active a user’s muscles are throughout an exercise. We also track how much effort a workout is with heart rate and oxygen consumption monitoring.” [Tonal]
